How to Express Yourself in Spanish

No matter which language you speak, emotions will always be an important part of human interactions. In this article, tutor Jason N. teaches you how to express your feelings and emotions in Spanish…

You’ve learned Spanish grammar rules, how to show comparisons, and perhaps some basic vocabulary. Next up: learning a broad spectrum of emotional language, which is key to expressing yourself fully in another language.

Ideally, you can practice this over a long period of time if you study in a Spanish-speaking country or if you’re lucky enough to maintain a romantic relationship with a Spanish-speaker. With that said, many people who are eager to fully express themselves in Spanish don’t have the luxury of practicing frequently with others. This article’s purpose is about filling this gap!

As Spanish is one of the romance languages originating from Latin, it’s considered to be a very “emotional” language. This means that you can’t really dive into the nitty-gritty of Spanish before expanding your emotional vocabulary. So, which words and phrases are important to know?

Finally, remember that since emotions are usually temporary mind and body states, you’d generally use estar instead of ser to express yourself — you can learn more about ser and estar in one of my older posts.

Are there any other emotions in Spanish you can think of? Ask your Spanish tutor for more suggestions, and of course, continue practicing!
